The Harvest Festival Parade
STEELVILLEThe 45th Annual Harvest Festival Parade in Steelville has been set for Saturday, September 8 at 1:30 p.m. The parade theme this year is “Movie Magic,” and the parade will journey east on Main Street.
The deadline to register for the parade is Saturday, September 1. Call the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce office at 573-775-5533 or Harvest Festival Chairman Becky Teed at 573-775-2151 for more information.
Entry forms can be completed by entrants on the day of the parade, as long as all rules and regulations are met; however, they will not be considered for judging.
The parade line up begins at 12:30 p.m., with judging at 1 p.m.
The parade will begin down Main Street at 1:30 p.m. There will be first, second and third place awards given to business floats, organization floats, original cars and modified cars, as well as the Grand Champion Float overall. All bicycles will receive a participation ribbon.
All floats, bikes, politicians, heavy equipment, emergency vehicles, queen candidates, other royalty, marchers and bands will enter the parade at the Steelville Middle School parking lot.
Classic cars will line up on Euclid Street. Horses and wagons will line up in front of the Crawford County shed on Euclid Street. Negative coggins will be required for all horses. No motorcycles or ATVs are allowed, unless they are on a trailer.
Parade entries are limited to Steelville area residents, businesses, Ozark Trailblazers members, River Valley Rod Association members and Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce members. Each group or individual will be limited to one entry per party or business, including political parties and heavy equipment. ATV’s or motorcycles are not allowed.
For safety’s sake, entries wishing to dispense items will provide two adults on foot to act as “safety marshals.” Those not meeting safety requirements will not be admitted into the parade. Candy treats will be allowed, but must be done in a non-hazardous manner, no overhand or hard throwing of items.
The parade route will be from the Steelville Middle School parking lot to the three-way stop at the corner of Highways 8 and 19. Exit instructions will be given to participants at the start of the parade.
Registration forms with a complete list of rules and regulations are available at the Steelville Area Chamber of Commerce office, located on the corner of Highway 8 and Highway 19 at the three-way stop, or at the Steelville offices of First Community National Bank and Peoples Bank.

Queen contestants being sought

An invitation is extended to young ladies residing in the Steelville School District to enter the Annual Harvest Queen Pageant.
Harvest Festival will be held the week of September 4-8. The pageant will be on Thursday, September 6 at Meramec Music Theatre. Contestants must be single, have passed their 16th birthday and not be over age 20 by September 1, 2007.
The pageant will be chaired by Cheryl Wilkerson. She is planning some fun activities for the girls. There will be lots of awards and prizes for the participants.
Contestants who register by Wednesday, August 15 will be invited to a special outing planned for that day.
An organizational meeting will be held at the high school cafeteria, immediately after the first day of school, Thursday, August 16. this will be the absolute deadline for entering the competition.
Besides the queen, there will be first and second runner-up, Miss Congeniality, talent and interview awards. Sponsors will be provided, if needed. There is not entry fee, the sponsor pays the entry fee.
